Cape Cod is made up of 15 different towns, each with their own unique offerings and flavor. Aside from visiting them all, the best way to get a feel for the differences is to take a look at the various town Chamber of Commerce web sites. Check out our Local Cape Chambers Collaborative web site, which contains links to 12 town Chambers, and has a beautiful picture slide show displaying scenes from Cape Cod. Alternatively, you will find links to all of the Cape Cod town Chamber web sites from our Feedback page.
Cape Cod is steeped in history. It was in Provincetown where the Pilgrims made their first landing back in November of 1620. Henry David Thoreau visited the Cape four times between 1849 - 1857 and wrote of his travels and observations of this unique area in his aptly titled book "Cape Cod". Originally connected to the Massachusetts mainland, the advent of the Cape Cod Canal in 1914 technically made the entire Cape an island. Cape Cod became a summer mecca for tourists at the end of the 19th century, when rail road service made the area accessible to the Boston area. Since then, the Cape remains a summer haven for vacationers world wide. We locals enjoy the beauty of the island and the ocean year-round.
